Last Sunday right after church I walked up to a couple of my best friends and asked them if they wanted to maybe do a BBQ. The weather was nice enough and this time of year you really have to take advantage of these nice days to fire up the grill, you know? They reminded me that the Catholic church was having thier anual Fall dinner and that they really wanted to go. It sounded good to me, so I said I would go too. Boy am I glad I did...I almost decided to convert to Catholicism.
When we got there (we just had to walk down the street...I live in a small town...it's cool), there were three young boys running around outside having a lot of fun. They waved at us and said "Hi!" and we went inside. It was so busy that we had to take a number and wait in the sanctuary until we got called to the basement in large groups. While we waited about four or five cute boys were running around, thier parents calling after them to come and sit down...very cool. But then our number was called and we filed downstairs. That was when it really got good. No kidding, literally everywhere I looked there was a cute boy! They had all these boys cleaning tables and waiting on tables and stuff. Plus there was just a lot of boys in there eating and running around. And I thought my church has a lot of cute boys...man oh man. There were tall ones, short ones, skinny ones, chubby ones, blond haired, dark haired....a whole smorgasbored. Plus the food was really good; so it became dinner and a show. Hey, I couldn't help myself from shamelessly boy-watching, they were everywhere my eyes could see. Then the coolest thing happened, I saw a boy who was the spitting image of my "L" when he was 11 years old, big time. I almost ran up to him and gave him a big hug. It brought back a flood of fond memories, so much so that i had a hard time finishing my meal. But all in all it was quite the evening. I probably won't become Catholic, but I doubt I will ever miss that dinner from now on. Chris ![]() |
