Therapists in many places are required to report illegal activities such as cases of abuse or pornography involving minors, or otherwise deem you to be a risk. The latter was a source of concern for me me when I was considering therapy, as it is based on the discretion of an individual you have never met and whose reaction will be difficult to predict. I e-mailed a few different therapists anonymously, explaining my story, and judged by their responses who I wished to see. I have no regrets, and I think it can be worthwhile if you exercise caution in deciding who to see.
