One thing we share in common as humans is that we are full of contradictions. All people have within them the ability to preform acts of great kindness and great cruelty. Humanity encompasses people like Gandhi, Martin Luther King, Hitler, and Pinochet. Even these people are not perfectly cruel or kind as they are humans like the rest of us. Most people fall somewhere between that famous spectrum of people, everyday we make many choices to be kind or cruel, often times these choices are made instantaneously with no thought at that moment.
My point is that people are not perfect or perfectly consistent in their moral choices. The person at work who is rude to you may spend hours helping his elderly parents or do lots of volunteer work on his own time or is simply kind at other times for some reason, the opposite is also true of people you see being mostly kind. I don't think people are mostly evil nor mostly good but something messy in the middle, imperfect in goodness or evil. Also I think it is arrogant of us to think we are extra special and morally superior to all other pedophiles. Godspell |
