When God asked his people to build him a temple, he did not ask them to gather together all the valuables, give them to the poor, then build him a shack. He asked that they gather together all the valuables and make him a structure made of gold, silver, bronze, onyx, and the finest linens. (exodus 25). The second temple, not having to be mobile, was even more extravagant.

As for the pizza thing. I don't understand how you can claim that you are the church and at the same time claim that you are not allowed to get together with the rest of the people who make up the church and buy pizza with the money you all pooled together for church use. That just doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. Either you are the church and you can do such things with the money you guys pooled together, or you aren't and can't.
