Dear Zeth,
The Bible, while of course being inspired, infallible and the precious revelation of God's Love for Humanity, is, as a practical matter, rather weak in some spots. I find it hard to see myself in it (except for Jacob & Esau, heheh, I had a thug older brother) where I have always found Classical Mythology to be a very meaningful reflection of my feelings and struggles. The story of Pomona and Vertumnus, for instance....I'm rather a plant nut, and none too interested in the dating scene. Again, we don't really see Christ engaged in the problems of dating, marriage, making an earthly career, and settling down to family life. These are, bluntly, things *I* need help on, need role models for. Short answer: Yes, this is a place where people can come and discuss BL stuff, whatever your relationship to the Biblical stories. There are some very unique elements involved in being in a relationship with another BL, it's very different to being in a "face to face" gay relationship. in BL/BL relations, the "Holy Beautiful Boy Imago" is always out there somewhere, a third party that both can see and appreciate. In "gay" relationships, I see you as my beauty, and you see me as yours. And as men age and lose their boyishness, that can become a burden. Consider the grotesqueries of, for example. Liberace making his chauffeur have plastic surgery to look like him. But because BL's *KNOW* that the beauty is "out there," their relationships tend to be more stable, and out-last the personal beauty. Christianity comes in when you start thinking about how it is possible to express BL stuff in other ways. For instance, I'm researching my grandfather's career in the YMCA. It creates cultural/historic/family meaning for me to track down the places he worked and, as a BL, got fired from! Feel free to post here and make friends! We're all going through this together. ---Didaskalos |
