Robert, this post is very compelling. Ive certainly softened in my view because of reading your stuff.
I have to admit that Im in the GPP. I do believe in types and ideals that we are to aspire to and I do see myself as broken and needing healing because I find myself outside of these types. If nothing else your commentary has made me really question this type of thinking. However, it is quite conceivable to me that in a world marred by sin in which sickness of all kinds pervades and thinking which is straight from the anti-Christ pervades a community ruled by Satan, that some variations may not just be natural but may in fact be flawed perversions of the created order. My contention is with so called loving Christians who persecute the sick, infirm or whatever your variation may be. I dont think that having a typical Man or Woman is the same as having a typological Bear or Eagle. Since in reality we are MEN and WOMEN and not bears or eagles and aspiring to be what God has made us is not unreasonable even though we may, in a sin soaked world of brokenness, come well short of it. The Scriptures encourage us to aspire to the maturity of Christ as Gods perfect man (eg: Eph 4). I also don't see the GPP as without a primary focus on love. If I say that God has a perfect plan, its certainly a loving plan (ie: one in which God moves in acts of love towards us) and for our part, conformity to the plan and its types is the very practice of love. "If you love me obey me" Jesus said. I put it in my reply to Rainboy that I think Romans 1 is a clincher Scripture in this discussion. Ill put something together and get back to you.
