Hi Robert-I,
I also have a vision of all creativity, especially Gods, ceaselessly expanding by creating novelties. When you think of all those simple strains of music you like well, its amazing how many of them there are. I agree with you about God's ceaseless creativity, and the incredible variety we get to experience. I probably should clarify the "simplicity" thing. First of all, I don't think simplicity means "limited variety". There can be a billion variations of something, and that something can still be simple and elegant. When I refer to something being "simple and elegant at the high-level", I mean it's not complicated and/or confusing at the high level (though it may be complicated when you drill down to the low-level details). On the subject of sexuality, I did not mean to imply that "simple dictates there can only be one sexual identity, because two would be too complicated". What I mean is that heterosexuality is simple and elegant because "it makes sense" ... it's "good design" ... it has clear Biblical support ... it has a clear (reproductive) purpose. Whereas homosexuality, and other sexual identities, just don't "make sense" in any clear, cohesive way. They seem to "go against common sense". The only reasons I have heard for why homosexuality is morally right (and approved of by God) seem to involve having to understand Greek, Hebrew, and advanced biology. I am probably being ignorant here, but I tend to feel that, in the absence of some obvious, compelling argument to the contrary (and I have yet to hear one), the simple interpretation (that homosexuality is sexual brokenness) is most likely to be the correct one (because elegance and simplicity is a characteristic of good design, and God is a good designer, etc.). Look, I realize that attempting to explain my thinking process (using this line of reasoning) was probably a bad decision. The chance of me being able to explain it well enough that it won't end up causing more confusion, is slim. So, if the above makes sense, great. If not, it's probably best for me to just retract the "simplicity / elegance" argument. I don't know that it has been all that helpful to the discussion. Blessings, Rainboy |
