I realize this discussion will almost certainly not change the minds of any of the participants (though I hope it will be helpful to those who have not yet reached any conclusions). That's why I said,

and I think it is worth at least trying to reach some sort of "closure" here (even if it is simply to disagree).

"Agreeing to disagree" IS closure. But, ending the discussion in mid-thought, with no party officially calling an end to the debate, just feels too unresolved for me.
