The beautiful slippery slope argument is very tempting to use but it belittles your intelligence Cat. Like when assuming if someone smokes cigaettes they will automatically start doing weed and then other drugs. OR the argument some people like to make in the US that if we allow gay marriage then it will quickly follow that we will have to follow polygamy and bestiality.
A friend of mine said: "The reason slippery slope arguments are falatious is because we always make each step in a reasoned way, and they assume that everything will be automatic after the first step." btw I also agree with CSL and Robert-I. We arrive at the same conclusion in slightly different ways but essentially agree. "Loving homosexual monogamous relationships are not mentioned or condemned." Another problem is that there are many things the Bible condemns or condones that most people consider the opposite. Also things that are not mentioned at all in the Bible due to how much things have changed since then. There are all kinds of moral questions which we need to find our answers to outside the Bible or at least use it for a basis but not the details and things where the Bible gives different answers to the same moral questions (slavery, death penalty, etc). On this particular issue of homosexuality we all must make our own decision within prayer and our reading of Scriptures. There have been disagreements among Christians since before Christ died I'm glad here we can be civil and remain respectful in our debates, at least it is not as bad as when Athanasius fought against the Arian theology/ Gs |
