It's virtually impossible to avoid being detected when looking for child pornography. With credit card details and IP logs, the police can track you down, check your computer, and then you're in Jail.

I think that only his friends and himself know that he would never hurt a child.
I am sure he is glad you and his friends are with him in this hard time, perhaps even risking yourself.

Personally, I could never hurt a child or download child pornography.
The emotional feelings that I would get from it, that the child likely was coaxed into sex and abused, would be enough to deter me any satisfaction from it.
