In terms of empiricals, I will infer over my experience as anyone else would when it becomes sufficiently well informed. Experience is not an assumption, though of course it may be driven by selective contact. In my own case I freely admit to preferring sites where conscientious boylovers appear to predominate.

I should warn you that I am also not completely politically naive and will spin when I think it aids the truth to be made known. There's a Tom Lehrer song about the Spanish Civil War, "they won all the battles, but we had all the good songs." Well, we are involved in a sort of war, to be exact a siege, and if the best response we can come up with is to be precise about our degree of maybe, we may just deserve to be swept away. I do assert that most little boy lovers are abstinent, though I can't prove it statistically. I find it highly probable, consistent with experience, and very important.

I believe that, as with everyone else, the "lunatic" or "aggressive" pedophiles are complex individuals who do more online than simply prowl the darkest corners of the internet sharing sadistic fantasies and pornography. I don't believe that they are in the BL forums for excitement; they go elsewhere for that. I believe they are in the forums for other reasons.

And what do you believe those reasons are? To me, one only has so much time, and if one is spending hours posting photos of men having sex with 7 year olds on Japanese chat websites, then one's time to write reasoned discussions on this type of board MAY (this is not an assumption, just a prognostication of probability) be limited.

I also know for a fact at least one person who would probably classify as "lunatic" in your book used the forums as well (though he didn't stick around very long). Very interesting, say more. What was he up to? Incidentally, I never asserted that no such people would ever show up on BL boards; in fact, I implied that they might. What I said was: "Aggressive and lunatic as well as most persuasives are unacculturated and you will not find them on BL boards. Even if they did show up, they would be barred by house rules from saying anything about their activities." I did literally mean "you will not find them" rather than "they are never there." Only by getting to know a lot of people off the boards could you eventually discover the aggressives who might be there. My messenger list is as long as anyone's, though, and even though I've occasionally blocked someone I found was spreading cp around, all I've found otherwise are conscientious people. I do know of one aggressive, though, who was on one site begging (in a way indicating this particular person's very low intelligence) to be told how to meet boys. He then visited another BL from the site, groped his YF, was arrested and is now serving time in Nebraska.

Believe it or not, both kinds [of people with "desires of a violent nature"] are present in the BL community, on these forums.

Those who are merely fascinated by s/m-ish things may be quite open about it, such as a fellow I know who writes stories about his main fantasy area, boys boxing and wrestling. (I hope we can agree boxing is violent.) I can certainly envision people who have real deadly wishes showing up and hoping to be counseled out of them, and indeed I hope they would, but I have not encountered this yet. Have you?
