The imprinting part is very hard to evidence, but I think it's a new idea to envision how it could still work despite having the infinitely variable fuzz factor of consciousness as part of the process. Many arguments could be made against the idea but I think over time it will tend to sell itself.

I expect at some point the brain mappers will actually find the spot(s) - it would be easy enough in principle now to have people think of their favourite fetish and find out where it sits in the brain. Then it would just be a matter of determining what age groups have those patterns (though tracing them back would be quite a task since post-pubescent experience would surround them with erotic memories.)
