I think you are right, people might be more sympathetic towards us if they could know that some of us are not the evil monsters they have been lead to believe we are. But how could this be possible? What can we do to get this message out? I think it's one of our purposes as Christian BL's to try to find an answer to this. What do you think? I've had this discussion with some of the activist BLs that I have met. Something to think about is the question of why you would want to do this. Sure, there are long term benefits, but in the short term, for the next few generations, things would get worse. I believe that the current view of the pedophile as a monster is very beneficial to us. The prevailing view of a pedophile is so distant from the reality of who we are that it becomes almost impossible for anyone who knows you even a little to think that you might be a pedophile. Pedophiles are, in their eyes, these unfeeling losers who don't care about the feelings of children and just want to groom them for sex. They are these socially inept individuals with no sense of morals. They are evil people with no heart. As long as the reality of who you are does not approach that fantasy view, your chances of ever being singled out as a pedophile are minute. The idea that you might be a pedophile clashes with everything people know about pedophiles and they find it hard to believe that such is possible. Thus, the prevailing view of what a pedophile is keeps people from realizing that we are pedophiles. As Dakota pointed out, it is very difficult for any individual to trust pedophiles around children. Therefore, it is in our best interest that people never find out we are pedophiles. So, what is wrong with having a stereotype of pedophiles that is so far off base that it is easy for us to pass as heterosexuals? |
