Here is something that happened to me last Sunday which might illustrate how we can use our "curse" or "burden" as a blessing.
I play electric guitar on our worship team at church and last Sunday we were playing some really lively songs. We usually do the more contemporary stuff anyway so this time we were doing some songs that I could really get down and boogie with. All of a sudden I heard this voice behind me "____, you rock!". I thought, "Who the heck...." and turned around and there he was. This teenage boy was standing there with a big smile on his face, just grovin' to the music. I've known this boy for a few years now. He is a foster kid who is staying with one of the nicest families in our church. He has had a pretty wild past, to say the least, which is how he became a foster child. He is now in those years of trying to find himself and is into the Goth look, I guess. With the black leather and piercings everywhere. I have liked this boy since the day I first met him, though, because he is really a decent kid and loves music...especially guitar. And he likes how I play, too. We always talk guitar whenever I see him. So, when the service was over, I got an inspired idea. Our bass player left our band some time ago and we have been trying like crazy to find another one. So I turned around and asked him if he was still playing guitar. He said, "No, I don't have one right now." Then I asked him if he would be interested in playing Bass for our worship team if I could find him a bass guitar. He said, "Yea....why not?". Oh man...I hope he will do it. I did find him a bass guitar he can use. I hope he will because I think it would be good for him as well as us. I think it is things like this that show how we can use this thing as a blessing instead of a curse. I began talking to this kid years ago because I am a BL, and who knows...maybe that connection will be able to help him now. I hope so. Chris |
