There are only two ways to fight such an injustice:

be someone the media will stand up for

have a high-powered attorney

If you were a college student on an assignment or someone else "obviously innocent" you could get the media to shame the police into apologizing.

Otherwise, you'll have to file a lawsuit. This gets expensive and there's no guarantee you will win. It will also be very public and even if you win, the publicity may cost you more than the apology is worth.

It's a fact of life that if you are in a group that is generally regarded as undesirable, you have fewer rights than the rest of society. Cue the scene from Casablanca: "Round up the usual suspects."

In this day an age, a man being friendly with children without good cause is an undesirable.
