Am really sorry that had happened to you. Especially with your father. I know exactly how it feels.

In regard to your rethinking, I think a wise man avoids trouble before it begins. With your church, I don't think it matters as much because they know you and trust you. But strangers can get defensive over practically nothing. So I think it is a good decision to be aware of who would happen to be in your photographs.

Other than that, have an awesome time with your hobby! Offer to share the pics with people in your church. I think many might be pretty grateful for the offer.
