I am an IT security professional and have never heard of any of these pieces of software. Follow this anonymous person's advice at your own risk.

Here are steps I would recommend if you want more security:

1. Buy a router and use it even if you only have one PC. Don't get a wireless one because it presents new security issues you need to worry about. Get one that requires cables.

2. Buy some anti-virus software from a reputable vendor like Mcaffee or Norton, keep it up to date (turn on all auto-update features), and never turn it off.

3. Get yourself a spyware blocker and use it.

4. This last step is debateable. A lot of security experts recommend that everyone get a firewall and use it. However, I have found that a firewall will create more headaches for the untrained user than they are worth. Specially if you followed step 1 above. If you want the added security, get a firewall, but be aware that some of your internet programs may require reconfiguration and that firewalls are prone to alerting you about things that aren't really a security issue.

Kim Komando (who has a pretty good radio syndicated radio show on technology) has a nice list of free software to help you with steps 2, 3, and 4 on her website http://www.komando.com/downloads/categories.aspx?cat=Security

*keep in mind that the only way to be sure you aren't already infected is to reformat before adding all of this security. If you can't afford to lose all of your data, at least scan your pc with virus and spyware scanners.
