Hey Chris!
While I definitely don't have an answer for you about what's really going to happen with people of another faith (I only wish I was as qualified as some others in this department), but I did hear one teaching that really caught my ear and was kind of neat.

I assume the passage you are referring to in the bible is John 14:6

"Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.""

One interpretation that I heard from a seminarian was that it was more of a statement of reality (and thus his authority), rather than a call to conversion. More like, "everyone who goes to Heaven is going to do so because of me and what I am about to do for you. Even if you may not know me, if you make it up there, its because of me" type of thing.

I am probably butchering this teaching and missing out some big stuff, but I've never heard of it like that before, and until I heard that teaching I had a lot of troubles with that verse.
