I think that the word is "adultry" and means exactly what it seems to mean. Ie: a married person having sex with someone other than their partner.
The question is if Jesus condemns fantasy adultery (assuming He is condemning fantasy and not actual flirting - see the old post I directed you to before)... can that be extended to include other kinds of fantasy about real people? I think it could... if fantasy about real people is what Jesus is worried about. I don't think imaginary fantasy is the same. You can't commit adultry with an imaginary boy if you ain't married! I guess I do see a significant difference between thinking about having sex generally and thinking about having sex with someone real. But since Scriputre is somewhat silent on the former... I have to tread carefully. Paul's conclusion in Romans is that Jesus can deliver us from our sinful nature (chap 7:24-25) and if we by the Spirit put to death the deeds of the body we will live (Rom 8:13). Paul agrees that we "do what we don't want to do" because "sin is at work in my members" (chap 7).... But his conclusion is 'Overcome by the Spirit'... not 'resign yourself to inevitable failure'. "walk in the Spirit and you will NOT fullfil the lusts of the flesh" Gal 5:16. Blessings Cat. ![]() |
