I don't think that replacing one lie with another is of any value. If someone is close enough to you to feel like it is appropriate to ask that question, then chances are that saying you are gay won't end questions. The questions will simply change from "why don't you have a girlfriend?" to "why don't you have a boyfriend?". Worse, they could try setting you up with other gay people they know.
