I just saw an episode of "Malcolm in the Middle" (great BL show btw!) where Reese (the oldest ~14) is taken by his mother to be her dance partner in a begginning class. It turns out that all the other students are elderly women, and they are all over Reese. The very first class, one of them pays him to dance with her instead of one of the other ladies (the instructor has been dancing with Mom). Apparently it goes on from there and he brings home a small fortune (for a 14yo) the first night. This continues for class after class. At the end of the show, Dewey (the youngest ~8) secretly videotapes the class, wherein we see this big, ancient, black womanslowdancing with Reese, sliding her hands down his back, and caressing, pinching, and otherwise grabbing his hot little behind.
Now why can the show get away with this? And moreso, why, in the show, can an old woman get away with it? Because it's a woman. If it had been a man, the storyline would have been a "dirty old man" child-molester type plot. But with a woman it's a cute, hilarious, harmless (exept for Dewsy's imminent blackmail) fun. While well-founded arguments can certainly be given that IRL this incident would not have ended as it did in the story, it does indicate a double standard. Female BL's are (apparently) far fewer than male BL's, yet they are not nearly as vilified as we are. Why is this? I have my theories, but I want to hear your input on this. In Christ, ~CSL ![]() |
