My novel about the BL boards is now online

For those of you who don't know me, I'm a journalist who wrote news articles about adult attraction to minors between 1998 and 2001. Among other things, I founded philia.ws.

Some of you may recall that, during the late 1990s, I planned to write a journalistic book on the topic of adult attraction to minors - specifically, on the topic of boylovers. In 2001, I unexpectedly lost use of my reading eyes, and for a while, it seemed uncertain that I would ever be able to read with my eyes again. (As it happened, I was able to partially recover my eyesight, thanks to the wonders of modern medicine.)

During that period, frustrated that I would be unable to complete my journalistic account of boylovers, I wrote - without being able to see the computer screen - a novel about life on the boylove boards. I ended up concluding that the novel did a better job of portraying the BL boards than any nonfiction book I could have written.

After holding onto the novel for several years, debating what to do with it, I've decided to place it online. I'll be serializing it, beginning this week with the first chapter, to give folks time to read the novel and to offer feedback.

The novel features characters who hold varying views on boylove and have varying backgrounds. The novel is partially set at BoyChat, the Christian Boylove Forum, and Crossroads. As I explain in the introduction, "The events and characters in the novel are fictional. However, the events are representative of the sorts of activities that have taken place [at these boards], while the tremendous variety of viewpoints expressed by the characters are drawn from reality." To be safe, in 2001 (I believe it was) I sent the manuscript to administrators at all three of the boards mentioned in the novel, asking them to check that there weren't any security problems with the novel. They all gave it a clean bill of health as far as security was concerned.

The novel is being published under the name I've been using professionally and socially for several years. I've posted below a link to the Website, which currently contains a site content label (providing additional information for those of you who have legal or emotional difficulties that might make it difficult for you to read a novel on boylove), the Author's Note, and the first chapter. I'll announce the rest of the chapters here weekly.

I welcome feedback on the novel.

(Cross-posted, as all subsequent chapter announcements will be, at BC, CBF, and CR.)
