I disagree with this interpretation of scripture. It's more likely the verse is saying "if you're capable of remaining unmarried, then do so,". It fits the context of the entire dicusssion going on in that chapter better than the opposite interpretation and it also jives more closely with what the bible teaches in later passages such as 1 Corinthians 7.
