Risks of false accusations

Posted by Kristian on 2007-03-18 14:18:56, Sunday

Hi again,
At my end some people are concerned & "flapping" as they're worried that should I upset my younger friends (who I play footie with, ect.) or the one who is like a brother to me, that they/he might make up that I did something sexual. I am aware that it is best NEVER to alone with a minor, just in case of an accusation, but that isn't always practicle. I used to have the rule that my sorta bro wasn't allowed into my flat, but then one day whilst chatting with him in the communal stairwell a drunk neighbour came out of their flat ranting & raving about the noise of us talking, & threatened us both with a knife. I of course went into protect mode, & stood between them both so I'd get hurt & not the boy. My young friend didn't help matters by managing to get past me & kicking the drunk man in the shin, before running into my flat.
Because of the above episode I consider it safer for the child if I allow him in my flat, but it's got my family worrying.
I'd NEVER do anything, & luckily for me I could prove beyond any shadow of doubt that I didn't expose myself or anything, should their worry actually occur. It's a card I'll keep tightly to my chest.

What's other people's experience of this?
Is the concern justified?
What advice would you give me?

Thanking you,
Kristian
