In fact, my young friend is my godson (I'm lucky in that respect, because even though our church's tradition is to baptize babies, his family believes in waiting until their children feel it is the right time (tending to be 10-13... they have 4)). this is only a true comparison when you look at the true image of a godparent: a person who is there to support and nurture the child alongside the parents and to take over their Christian upbringing if the parent(s) become unable to do so. As opposed to the all-too-common person who says some words and is never seen from again. It is exactly this kind of loving, supporting relationship that many of us desire to have with boys, when allowed to go as deep as possible. That is how real love can be expressed. Yes our bodies want something different, sometimes, but it is the love we crave to have and give in our hearts of hearts. ~CSL |
