T-Monkey is right about one thing: it is terrifying to parents. This is why parents need to stop and think rationally and gather the facts. They need to NOT rely just on instinct or on what others have told them, or worse, what others have taught them to think.

Remember when you were a little boy and you thought there was a monster in the closet? The very belief that they were there frightened you. Your beliefs had no basis in fact but you were scared nonetheless.

Some (hopefully only a very few) of the posters on Freak Safari see pedophiles as bogeymen, things to be feared absent any logical reasons to back that fear. These are the same people who might spray-paint the house of a newly-arrived neighborhood registered sex offender, never-mind that the person is bedridden and dying of cancer. They simply won't take the time to do an individual risk-assessment to get all the facts before passing out the pitchforks.
