The etymology of a word is largely irrelevant. Words are defined by their usage. The word pedophile means 'an adult who is sexually attracted to children', that's it. It doesn't matter what the word pedophile might mean when translated to its original root any more than it matters that when you translate 'assassin' to its original root you get 'eater of hashish'.
