This is just another example of how people are focusing more on what is politically correct or "looks good" than what will really make kids safer. Any thinking person realizes that keeping pedophiles from living within a certain distance of kid hang outs will do nothing to keep an actual preditor from molesting. If anyone suggested that they pass a law barring convicted convenience store robbers from living close to any convenience store to help keep them from "reoffending," they would be laughed out of office and would be the butt of countless jokes from guys like Jay Leno and Saturday Night Live. But because this is supposedly to protect kids, it is being hailed as some inovative and bold new concept.
As far as the offender registery, they have used a few isolated cases where a repeat offender has hurt kids and turned it into a scarlett letter scenario. Any psychologist can tell you that if you label a person and constantly treat him as if he is a certain kind of person, then he WILL be that kind of person. So in essance, they are making it damn near impossible for anyone who has made a mistake of ever reforming. They will ALWAYS be a child molester. So even more kids will be at risk. This kind of stuff really gets my dander up. Normally intelligent people act so STUPID when it comes to this topic. And if you challenge them on it, their mantra is "whatever it takes to protect kids." Well, DUH........that's the point. It DOESN'T protect kids, just the opposite. But if you disagree with them, they accuse you of not wanting to keep kids safe. It's all so foolish. And the sad thing is that people can't seem to SEE how foolish it is. OK. Enough ranting. Dakota |
