I know from previous relationships, that it's better to have a bird in the hand than two in the bush. Keep your friendship with the man you love, do nothing to jeopardise it! Someday, he might come back to you - and if he doesn't at least you still have him as a freind.

It's a tough position you're in, but I hope you get through it. Like Godspell said, maybe you should try to get involved in the Gay scene where you live? It'll take your mind off of everything, and maybe, just maybe you might meet somebody who completes you.
